Surplus Produce

Genoa Produce Market is involved in numerous initiatives focusing on food culture.

Every Friday, fruit and vegetables are collected that would otherwise be destroyed because they are too ripe to be sold, even though they are still perfectly edible.

Numerous charity organisations take advantage of this opportunity to reclaim considerable amounts of fruit and vegetables for distribution to the needy, constructing a further link between the market and the society of the Polcevera Valley and the entire city of Genoa.

These initiatives include the CREA (Food Surplus Reclamation Centre) project organised with the City of Genoa and Comunità di San Benedetto al Porto.
