Genoa Agri-Food Centre

26 fresh produce wholesalers, 22 logistics companies, 11 horticultural enterprises. A total of 620 direct employees, plus 5950 people working in related industries, with 3000 daily accesses and an annual turnover of over 250 million euro: 15 years after moving to its new location, Genoa’s produce market has completed the process of transformation into a primary national Food and Agriculture Logistics Centre, open 24 hours a day. On one side, there is a conventional produce market. The market handled about 180 thousand tonnes of produce last year, thanks to the work of wholesalers operating all over the region of Liguria, from the Azure Coast of France to the bordering regions of Piedmont and Lombardy. A landmark for national and international producers and for agriculture in Liguria, for whom the market represents an opportunity to sell not only fruit and vegetables but top-quality traditional local products, through initiatives promoting Liguria’s protected denomination of origin wines and olive oils.

Across from the main building are the pavilion and other spaces for processing produce and for logistics, with growing investment in smart handling of produce using electrical vehicles right down to the last mile, digitisation of sales and modernisation of the cold chain. The flower market was added at the end of 2022: a cutting-edge facility for conducting business in the horticultural market, with structural features making it a practical centre for sales and logistics in the Italian and international horticultural sector. In addition to these three “poles”, a container weighing service permits issuing of VGM certification under SOLAS regulations. This service is available Monday through Friday to meet the needs of carriers and shipping agents, with a pair of category C customs warehouses.
